EL TOCOSH

I like tocosh. Tocosh is a pudding-like dessert from the highlands of Peru. It is prepared from fermented potatoes, corn, or ocas. People here in Otuzco call it chuño. It has sugar and cinnamon, and it tastes good. However, because of its fermented main ingredient, tocosh smells awful! One evening─during my first week here, I was walking in the street when I suddenly noticed something smelled terrible. The smell was familiar to me. Then, I saw a group of people sitting on the sidewalk, holding disposable dishes and eating something. I also saw a lady with a big plastic bucket─on the floor─selling something. It was tocosh, which I used to eat as a child! The tocosh from a friend I eat here some Wednesdays brings back fond memories.
